countdown to Christmas blocks & a blog award

This past Saturday night was "Craft Night" for anyone on my side of the family that wanted to make one of these:




It was a fabulous night of visiting with my sisters, sisters-in-law, and my mom. We all brought some yummy food and just enjoyed some time to craft and hang out. My husband, my mom, and one of my brothers were busy with the kids for most of the time.

My brother was kind enough to cut all the blocks for us. We just Mod Podged on different Christmas-themed patterned papers. Then added the numbers (cut out of black cardstock) with Mog Podge. The words on the large bottom block was simply printed out on the paper.

I'm happy with how it turned out. If I was to do it over, I would probably paint the blocks white before adding on the paper. But I kind of like them plain, too!

I used a punch to round the corners, then inked the edges with some distressing ink. The project would have been even easier if one of us had owned a machine to cut the numbers out of vinyl, but our way worked well!

I have to tell 7 things about myself. I had a hard enough time thinking of 7 things for the last award...hmm.......

1. I grew up in a big family. I have 5 brothers (4 older, 1 younger) and 2 younger sisters. So I had all 5 brothers before getting my sisters.
2. I get extremely nauseous and sick when I fly. I can get car sick easily on driving trips, but flying makes me feel horrible. Yet my husband & I have lots of trips that would involve us flying that we want to do when our kids are a little bit older. It's fun seeing new places and I'm not going to let the nausea hold me back! lol
3. I have some issues with OCD when it comes to things being clean and organized in our home. I try to not let the little things bug me ALL the time.
4. I love to read. I love books that I can't put down, but then I fly through them and feel sad when they're over.
5. I get excited every time a book I have read is made into a movie. But always feel disappointed because the movie never comes close to doing the book justice.
6. I have always loved making crafts. Even all the way back in school when it was "art time". There's just something about cutting paper and gluing things together that I enjoy. So my scrapbooking hobby was just a natural progression.
7. My favorite season is fall. I love that it is cooler out, but not too cold. That's my husband's favorite season as well, so we chose October as the month to get married in. And that's usually when we choose to go on our annual holiday to the mountains.

Here are 7 things about me:

1. I am a night owl. But since I've been a mom I have to try to go to bed a bit earlier because my son has always been an early riser and my baby & I are usually up between 6 and 6:30. every day. So staying up late isn't very practical for me.
2. My favorite colour is pink. yet the idea of painting our daughter's room pink never appealed to me at all.
3. I am a neat freak. I feel most comfortable when everything in our home is in it's place.
4. I can't stand having nail polish on my fingernails. But always have my toenails painted.
5. Since I was pregnant with my son a few years back, I don't like chewing gum anymore. I prefer cinnamon mints instead.
6. I love taking pictures. It makes me very happy to capture the "perfect" shot. My kids are my favorite subjects to photograph!
7. I have more ideas for craft projects than time to make stuff. I'm hoping to get a few more projects posted on this blog soon though. I'm trying to recover from the fun & busy long weekend we just had!
