Video Game Themed Birthday Party

My son turned 10 last December and he picked a video game theme for his birthday. We focused on XBOX and the black and green colours. It was fun to put together!

X is for XBOX...

We had the boxes from our XBOX consoles in the basement, so we set those out...

Put our original XBOX out as well...

I had a chalkboard banner that I wrote "GAME ON" on...

My husband's childhood Super Nintendo and games were on display as well...

I had the Minecraft Happy Birthday banner, the Game On chalkboard banner, and then I had a banner I made with images from classic video games and more current ones that I found online and printed off...

For the pizza at the family party, I made printables to label what each kind of pizza was...

I covered the bottles of pop in black and white wrapping paper and labeled those as well. I found the Nintendo controller bottle labels online and printed those off for the water bottles...

Simple "X" cupcakes that looked like the XBOX symbol...

My son loved it all!

For his friend party, I did similar food, just for less people.

I labeled the pizza boxes again at his friend party. He wanted to just have a few friends over to play video games, of course! :)

For party favours, the kids each got a Minecraft cup with a chocolate bar with the Nintendo controller wrap on it...

I added out a few more treats at his friend party since it was a bunch of kids...

Green Jello as "Gamer Jello"...

Skittles as "Power-Ups"...

The Oreos with mint green icing in the middle for "Gamer Oreos"...

I did the same cupcakes for his friend party...

For his real birthday when it was just our family, he wanted an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen and they even had a Minecraft one!

I really enjoyed putting this party together for my son. 

He totally loved it, which makes it all worthwhile!

DIY Lego Table

I put together this Lego table for my kids and it was super-easy!

I bought a Lack side table from Ikea. I chose a white one, but they have other colours, including red or yellow or green that would be cute. (price is in Canadian Dollars)

After putting it together...

All I did was measure out where the centre was so I would have the boards straight and in the middle, with a little border of the table around the edges. I just used my hot glue gun to add on the boards and they are stuck on good!

My kids had a few different types of Lego storage containers, but in the interest of space saving & a simple look, I bought this awesome bin to go underneath. It's a Vessla bin from Ikea. I have a few of these in our play room in other colours (green, blue, pink). They have casters on the bottom to move & a lid (sold separately). I love them for toys!

This now lives in our living room...

My kids of course loved it and play Lego every day. And it {mostly} stays on the table! Stepping on Lego hurts!

DIY Painted Ikea Kids Table

For my daughter's 2nd birthday, I made-over an Ikea table for her, as she loves tea parties.

I got this small table that came with 2 chairs (price is in Canadian Dollars).

I bought a set of Martha Stewart paint at Michael's that had some pretty colours I loved and painted it all...

*Note: I already had one chair from this set in case you are wondering how I managed to get 3 chairs!

I chose yellow for the table, pink for one daughter, purple for my other daughter, and blue for my son so they each have a chair, just for them!

I added on cute letting stickers onto the back of each chair & put some Mod Podge over to keep them from peeling off. I bought some flower vinyl stickers from the dollar store to add onto the top.

She loved it when I gave it to her on her birthday and my kids use it each and every day!

'I hope your summer is "chalk" full of fun!' -Classmate/Classroom Year- End Gifts

The school year is ending this month and the countdown to summer holidays is on!

My son, age 7, helped me make up some little end-of-the-year gifts to hand out to his classmates on the last day of shool:

I picked these up at the dollar store (Dollarama for my fellow Canadians) for $3 each. I actually only needed 1 box as there are 20 kids in my son's class and each box has 40 pieces of chalk.

All we did was add 2 pieces of chalk into snack-size Ziplock bags and fold the labels over the bags and staple them. Super easy!

I didn't have colour ink in my printer at home, so I made some labels with the suns in black & white, then we coloured in the suns using pencil crayons!

I am sharing the version with the suns in colour, as well as the black & white version.

Each 8.5 x 11 printable I am sharing has 2 labels on it. You can have your child sign their name on the labels and cut them to fit over snack-size or regular Ziplock bags.
