DIY Lego Table

I put together this Lego table for my kids and it was super-easy!

I bought a Lack side table from Ikea. I chose a white one, but they have other colours, including red or yellow or green that would be cute. (price is in Canadian Dollars)

After putting it together...

All I did was measure out where the centre was so I would have the boards straight and in the middle, with a little border of the table around the edges. I just used my hot glue gun to add on the boards and they are stuck on good!

My kids had a few different types of Lego storage containers, but in the interest of space saving & a simple look, I bought this awesome bin to go underneath. It's a Vessla bin from Ikea. I have a few of these in our play room in other colours (green, blue, pink). They have casters on the bottom to move & a lid (sold separately). I love them for toys!

This now lives in our living room...

My kids of course loved it and play Lego every day. And it {mostly} stays on the table! Stepping on Lego hurts!

Disneyland Savings Tin

It's been 6 months since our last visit to The Happiest Place on Earth & I'm missing Disneyland!

I covered a dollar store piggy bank with cute scrapbook paper & added ribbon on the top & bottom edges with my glue gun. I finished off with some simple embellishments.

Now I can add in spare change and cash to add towards our spending money next time we go back!

DIY Christmas Pillow

Hope you're enjoying your Wednesday! We are getting SO MUCH snow here today it is insane!

I made a few projects last Christmas that I never got around to posting about.

The first is this pillow makeover:

I had this pillow that wasn't really my style, stored in the basement......

I made a new case for it using this cute Christmas fabric my SIL had given me for Christmas the year before. 

When I was finished sewing the cover, I made 5 rolled fabric flowers using some of the scraps. I like how the flowers jazzed it up a bit.

I am getting really excited for Christmas time and I look forward to decking the halls around here!

Batman Wipes Case

I wanted to make a wipes case for my sister-in-law who had her first baby last month. She is all about the Batman stuff for him. She picked out this fabric for the wipes case & I think it turned out pretty darn cute!

Pom Pom Clothespin Magnets {tutorial}

Happy Friday everyone! 

Today I'm going to show you how I made these:

To make the pom pom....

Step One: Cut out circles from your fabric of choice. (I used an Advil bottle to trace my circles.) You can fold the fabric a few times so that you don't need to cut out each individual circle. I use about 20 circles for each pom pom.

On a small circle of felt, begin adding your circles, one at a time. You fold each circle in half, then in half again before you glue it to the piece of felt.

Step Two: Add next circle beside & add extra dabs of glue if necessary.

Step Three and Step Four: Keep adding the circles in layers, until the pom pom looks full & you are happy with the result.

To finish making these clothespin magnets, I simply added the pom pom to one side of my clothespin, then added the magnet on the other side, using my glue gun.

I added one to the top of my sister's gift for her bridal shower recently.

These would be cute gift idea as well. A set with a few different colours that coordinate would be a great gift idea for a teacher, sister, mom, etc!

DIY Kids' Artwork Board

Since I have 2 young kids (my son is 4 & my daughter is 2), our fridge is home to all their crayon pictures and other artwork. Since I am all about them being creative, I wanted to make a place for them to hang more in our basement playroom. Here's what I made...

My husband had some scrap pieces of hardwood in the basement, so I took a long strip that was destined for the trash & some clothespins to spray paint.

The long piece of wood got about 6 coats of glossy white paint & the clothespins only needed 2 coats of aqua blue spray paint.

I didn't take a picture of the next step, but I just added the clothespins with hot glue.

(Sorry the pictures aren't the greatest, these were taken in the basement....at night.

With my son starting kindergarten this fall, I think this will be a great place to display all those larger paintings and craft things that kids make in school.

It also helps fill up some of the blank space that was above the couch in the basement...

My son saw it up today is he has already started making new pictures to hang up on it!

I think it fits right in with our basement play room...

How To Make Rolled Felt Flowers

Happy Tuesday! Here in Canada we just had a long weekend for Victoria Day & I also celebrated my 25th birthday on Saturday. So it's extra-hard getting back into the swing of things today, especially since it's raining outside & the forecast has rain for the rest of the week, too!

I have had some comments and emails asking me to do a tutorial on how I made the felt flowers in THIS POST, so I am happy to help out!

Let's get started!

First, you start off with a long piece of felt, the longer the piece the larger the circumference of the flower will be. The width will determine the height of the flower since the piece will be folded in half.

Add of line of glue with your glue gun, then fold the felt over.

Next, cut snips on the folded side using your scissors. You can do the cuts close together or far apart & each one will alter the look of your flower.

Then you just start rolling it.....

Add a dab of glue when you get to the end...

Then you can cut out a circle of felt to go at the bottom. This is where you can add felt "leaves" if you so choose.

Then you're done!

For a different look, you can do diagonal cuts all the way down...

That till give you a flower that looks like this...

Repeat the flower making process again & again, cause they are super-easy to create!

whip up some flowers today

Feeling like you don't have time to craft & that life is too busy? I feel the same way. 

So here and there, while I am watching something cook on the stove or waiting on hold to talk to a service provider, etc, I bring out some basic supplies & whip up a set of felt flowers or some simple hair clips for my daughter or to have on hand for gifts.

I am starting to accumulate a stash of extra flowers & such which saves time next time I am crafting or trying to make hair things for a baby gift. 

It's something that has been working for me :)
