Valentine's Day is Almost Here!

With less than a week to go until Valentine's Day, I thought I would share a post about how we have been getting ready to celebrate in our home!

Last week I made cookies for my kids and took it one step further and set out some treats to celebrate a 4-day weekend from school with some Valentine's goodies...

For the past few years, we have used these cute little mailboxes I found at Target to exchange Valentines as a family. It's become a fun little tradition to open them up on February 14th!

I incorporated some Valentine's decorations onto our fireplace mantle in our family room...

This button heart frame is something I made a few years ago and I still love it! It's on my fireplace mantle...

My daughter helped me put together these little goodie bags to hand out to her Kindergarten class along with her Valentines...

My son in grade 3 will be giving these goodie bags out to his class along with his Valentines...

My kids will also be giving a little thing of Lindor chocolates to their teachers. For my daughter in kindergarten, I added on a picture of her with both of her teachers onto the bagS (I covered the faceS with the hearts for privacy reasons)...

Maple Leaf Sugar Cookies

Yesterday was a rainy day so I decided it was a good opportunity to make some cookies!

I busted out my container of cookie cutters & decided on a maple leaf shape.

And I got to use my cute new red maple leaf sprinkles!

The cookies were a big hit with my kids!

easy Halloween cupcakes

Although my family & I have been sick lately, I am still trying to do some fun stuff for my kids before Halloween.

These are some cupcakes that my son helped me make.....

I just added green glitter sprinkles and a pumpkin gummy on the top of each cupcakes. So totally easy & kinda cute!

October is definitely the month of sugary treats! {Wink!}

my favourite cookies {recipe}

Today I am going to share my favourite cookie recipe...

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

1/2 cup margarine

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup white sugar

1 egg

1 tbsp water

1/2 tsp vanilla

3/4 cup flour

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

1 1/2 cups quick cooking oats

1 cup chocolate chips (I always use less than that)

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2. Use an electic mixer to cream the 2 sugars together with the margarine in a large bowl.
3. Beat in the egg, water, and vanilla.
4. Use a wooden spoon to mix flour, baking soda, and salt into the mixture.
5. Stir in the oats and chocolate chips.
6. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto cookie sheets.
7. Bake 10 minutes or until slightly browned on the edges.

Makes about 2 dozen medium-sized cookies.

Happy Canada Day! {part 1}

In honour of Canada Day, here's part one (of 2) of some special things we're doing to celebrate today.

I made this cake for dessert tonight.......

I attempted to make a Canada flag. I just made a white cake from a cake mix, covered it with whipped topping, and decorated it with sliced strawberries- it`s gonna be good! :)

At dinner tonight , we`ll use white plates & red napkins, and these cute napkins, too! (Found them at the dollar store yesterday.)

And this morning we gave our 3 and a half year old little guy a map of Canada puzzle. He loves maps and puzzles, so he was pretty excited!

boy's 3rd birthday party- Toy Story theme

My son turned 3 in December & had a Toy Story birthday party. He loves all things Toy Story!!

Since he had been Woody for Halloween, I made invites to mail out with a picture of him dressed up, and just another cute picture, too!





The inside was simple, I found a Toy Story font online.








I bought this cool banner from Toys R Us.




And I also bought balloons......

...and added some streamers.

We were going to have pizza for lunch. So I wanted to incorporate the whole "Pizza Planet" thing from the 1st Toy Story movie. I was originally going to make stuff to cover the labels that come on the pizza boxes with Pizza Planet labels, but once the boxes are opened, you wouldn't see them anyways.

So I made a couple of these blocks, using some scrap wood and an image I found online then printed out.

The food right before lunch started:

I made these green alien cupcakes, which my son thought were sooooo cool!

I also ordered a cool Toy Story cake from my local bakery. And my little man was super excited about that! We had some other treats out with our cake and cupcakes...

I made up some little treat bags for the cousins at the party......

I had some Toy Story goodies in the bag. On the right, I made some covers for boxes of Smarties using Toy Story scrapbook paper.

simple ways to spread some love.

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, here are a couple of easy ways to spread some love.....

Here are some little things I whipped up for the 4 year olds my husband and I teach at church on Sunday:

The cute bubbles came in packs of 4 at Walmart for $2.

I made some labels using a word document then printed them out on cute scrapbook paper. Red for the boys and pink for the girls.

I glued the labels onto some white cardstock to give them some strength, then used a mini heart punch so I could tie them on with some ribbon.

So easy and the kids will like them I'm sure. My 3 year old son was all over this project. Thankfully I had a left over one for him. I'll also take an extra or two in case we have some visitors in our class on Sunday. You never know!

Last night I made some cookies to put in my husband's lunch today. I just used store bought cookie dough. But to make them more special, I added a Reese chocolate heart in the middle of each cookie as soon as they came out of the oven. I'm not a big fan of peanut butter chocolate, but my son and husband like these cookies. They do look pretty yummy....
