things I like thursday #1

Hey everyone! I am trying something new around here. I will be featuring a handful of my fave things on Thursday- things that caught my eye from blogging, or from Pinterest......

I really need to try making some shaped crayons like these heart ones from Jenerally Speaking!! My son has so many broken crayons that he doesn't use.

I love this colouring tote from Seven Thirty Three! What a great item to hold crayons and a colouring book. This would be perfect for church, travelling, waiting rooms, etc!!

{Add marbles in the cupcake tin to make heart-shaped cupcakes. Awesome tip from Muses of Megret.}

flower t-shirt {freezer paper stencil}

Last month my sister-in-law gave me freezer paper and some different colours of fabric paint so I could get started on projects using freezer paper stencils. I am recovering from a crazy month & a serious crafting rut. But I finally gave the freezer paper thing a try last week- and I don't know why I didn't try sooner! I just love how easy it all is and how endless the possibilities are!!

My first project was pretty simple..... a t-shirt for my daughter...

My supplies:

-freezer paper
-pink fabric paint, foam brush, and disposable plate (that I used as my paint tray)
-exacto knife & cutting mat and scissors
-die cut image of a daisy

I started with my plain white t-shirt ($4 from Walmart).

I have a bunch of die cuts from years ago in my scrapbook stash, I found one that I wanted to use as the stencil image for the shirt.

Then traced the image onto the dull side of the freezer paper.

Then I cut the image out using my exacto knife. Then ironed the image onto the shirt (shiny side down.) It's pretty cool how that works!

I put some of the freezer paper inside the shirt so the paint wouldn't bleed through. Then I painted away! I used 2 coats.

Once dry, I peeled away the freezer paper.

And then I dressed my little girl in her new shirt!

I seriously can't wait to get a bunch more solid-coloured t-shirts so I can get busy making more. My mind is spinning with ideas!

Thanks Paige for getting me addicted to another crafting area! ;)

the simple things- week #1

Rebecca Cooper hosts The Simple Things Challenge each week on her blog. It's an opportunity to share a photo of a simple thing or simple moment that happened during the week that made me smile. I have been meaning to participate in past weeks and just haven't. So hopefully this becomes a weekly post here on my blog!

On Saturday we enjoyed going as a family to our city's historic park where we saw the Fort and the historic homes and buildings. And rode on the train!

Sharing some time with the ones I love was the perfect Saturday!

scrapbook saturday #19

I know I have been a horribly inconsistent blogger lately. On a personal note, my 14 month old daughter had another hospital stay this month and then was diagnosed with asthma. So it's been a challenging month. But now that things have been returning to normal {with exception of her sleep schedule!!} I am ready to get some craft projects DONE again!

But since it's Saturday, I will share some scrapbook pages for now...........

{this one I played around a bit with my sewing machine to do a bunch of stitching details}

{I thought a different take on journalling would be to do the "Top Ten Things I Love About" my son.}

Enjoy your weekend!!

still need a Father's Day idea??

My 3 year old ended up giving my husband his Father's Day stuff early.... tonight after his daddy got home from work. My little boy was just too excited to wait!

But here is what I am giving MY dad for Father's Day........

A popcorn container filled with goodies:

  • Dad's cookies

  • Dad's old fashioned root beer

  • toffee POPcorn

  • a few more sweet treats: Skor chocolate bar, package of mini Almond Joy chocolate bars, and a big Tootsie Roll candy.

  • framed 5 x 7 of my kids (for his office at work).

  • picture my son drew for his grandpa (rolled up and tied with a piece of ribbon).

  • card I made for him.

And just because here are the cards I made for Father's Day. I just whipped up some super simple ones using the patterned carstock that came with my Project 365 kit.

Hope you have a great weekend & that you are able to celebrate all the dads in your life!! :)

pinterest.

I've been pinning.... a lot! Since starting on Pinterest a couple of weeks ago, I have become hooked!

Pinterest allows me to"pin" all the cute ideas I come across on websites and blogs and categorize them so that I can refer to them later. Here are some examples of a few of my "boards".....

I have a separate board for scrapbooking, photography, crafts I want to try, crafty inspiration, yummy goodies, parties, etc, etc, ETC!!

Yup, I am a Pinterest addict now.....
